So as we all head into the new year we are all faced with the concept of New Years resolutions. Oh I have made
them before only to fall short of my goal as life (family and work) take over my good intentions. So this year I decided to get my friend Angela involved in my New Year resolution so that I have to be accountable to someone other than myself. Oh, I guess this would be a good place to tell you what my New Years Resolutionis.........well the plan is to be
physically active for a minimum of 30 minutes for all 365 days of the year. That is right every single day of 2012. So now you might be asking why are you blogging about it? Well Angela and I were trying to figure out how to keep each other on track, she lives in London and I live in Collingwood. We tried google calendar but that was really frustrating and then Angela sent me an excel sheet that had dates on it and that is not that much fun. So when I was snowshoeing the other day I thought to myself maybe I should blog about our efforts - make us accountable not only to each other but anyone else who might be interested in what we are up to. So that is the beginning of this blog I hope you enjoy and I look forward to your comments.

The Weekend - Days 119 and 120

Well the weekend has finally arrived and it was busier then the week leading up to it.

Saturday April 28 - Day 119 - The day started with a  Georgian Bay Titans Rugby sign up session at the Mountain View camp registration and garage sale event - we had tons of kids interested - many of them kept talking about how their teacher loves rugby and how they are learning about it gym - when I asked who their teacher was - each kid responded with Mr. Rennie (my husband).  He sure has made a impact in this community with his passion for rugby!  Then I had my Silpada jewelry party in the early afternoon and then in the evening a Disco Diva night out with the girls - celebrating Lesley`s birthday.  So all I managed was a 35 walk with the boys between the jewelry party and the disco party!

Disco Diva Night Out - Birthday girl in the middle - I am the one on the far left of the picture
my mother in law did not even recognize me!!
Sunday April 29 - Day 120 - survived last nights festivities and even had a little sleep in.  We relaxed for most of the morning and got ready for Matthew`s family birthday party.  Sean went for a mountain bike ride with the guys so Matthew, Kade and I went for a 45 minute hike along the Bruce Trail near Castle Glen.  It was lots of fun and Kade managed to find every single mud puddle along the way!

Turned out to be a great weekend!

Week of Days 114 through 118

Well things have been crazy busy, a busy time of the year - taxes, HST (which is the first time doing that), Mother of all Garage Sales, a Silpada party (thanks Barbara Jean), and Matthew broke his hand (it takes a whole day at the hospital to x-ray, diagnose and splint (cast comes next Tuesday) a broken kids hand.  Needless to say I have not had an opportunity to update the blog - and really I should not be doing it right now - I am procrastinating and this more fun then doing my HST even if it is due today!!!!!!  Just to let you know amongst all this busyness I still managed to fulfil the New Years Resolution and got at minimum my 30 minutes of physical activity in each and every day this week.  Here is the overview:

Monday Day 114 - as aways the beginning of the week is a hard one to get going but it is like a new start with lots of anticipation for doing a better job then the week before.  The one additional struggling factor this week was there were no Active Life Ladies Conditioning classes for 2 weeks - it is the break between sessions - so my motivation needed to be extra strong since I did not have the classes to make me work out!  Ended up getting up early - couldn't sleep - so I made it to the Y for a 45 minute spin class and wanted to round it out to a hour of cardio so planned on 15 minutes on the treadmill but managed 30 - there was a good HGTV show on that I wanted to see the end of :)

Tuesday Day 115 - Today was a supper busy day for work and Sean is helping out the the Optimist Mother of All Garage Sale every night this week - a huge fund raiser for our local optimist club - Sean is an active member so he is helping collect peoples junk and organize the event.  So I have the boys in the evening - so I convinced Kade to come with me on a walk with a promise that we could check out the sale - we enjoyed a good brisk 45 minute walk. It was a good pace because Kade was on his scooter!

Wednesday Day 116 - Off  to the YMCA early this morning - still a little cold outside to enjoy such an early morning run by myself.  It has been really windy and the wind is coming off Georgian Bay which is still so cold.  The Y is warm and there is a TV so I managed to get there and fit in a 30 minute run.  I then was convinced by Kade to go for a walk ( 45 minutess) again tonight - he wanted to see if there were any good new deals at the upcoming garage sale!

Thursday Day 117 - today there was a 6:15am Active Life drop in class - yeah a little strength and someone - Laura - to tell me what to do!! Felt good.  I then had a great walk with my friend Alisha in the evening - we were all over town exploring new trails and talking up a storm - ended up getting in a 65 minute really brisk walk - Alisha is much shorter then me but boy those legs are fast!

Friday Day 118 - Off to the Y again this morning - again it is easy - the only unfortunate thing is the spin class on Friday is only 30 minutes - it usually takes me 30 minutes to warm up and I think that if I am getting up and dragging my ass to a spin class for 6 am it should be at least an hour!!  So I ended up running on the treadmill again for 30 minutes to make the visit worth it!

Like I said a crazy week but still managed to make physical activity part of each and every day!

The Week of Days 107-113

Well this has been a busy week with no time to blog.  So here is my "coles notes" on how the week went.

Day 107 - Monday - Started with an Active Life workout - this was testing day - which I feel I did pretty good at - improved my time and got close to some of the fastest times on the board - my excuse is that my legs are too long which kills precious seconds!  Then did get in a 45 minute run on the treadmill too.

Day 108 - Tuesday - today was technically my day off - I was really, really tired and my legs hurt from Mondays workouts.  So I ended up going for a brisk 45 minute walk at the end of the day.

Day 109 - Wednesday - sleep in and missed my run with Sarah and Jen - so I ended up jumping into a great one hour spin class later in the morning.

Day 110 - Thursday - another morning at Active Life - today was a great strength workout.  Then in the evening the boys and I went for a 50 minute walk.

Day 111 -  Friday - jumped into another Active Life class - since we are in between sessions for the next two weeks I thought I would get one more in just in case!  Another great class with lots of cardio to.

Day 112 - Saturday - Today was a sleep in and boy did I need it. Was hoping to get a bike ride in but it was raining, windy and cold - not my favourite combination.  Ended up jumping on the treadmill and caught up on HGTV for 50 minutes.

Day 113 - Sunday - Surprisingly got to run with Heather - whom I have not seen a lot lately - it was great to catch up and to get in a 9.5 km run (she did 10km - had to run home from my house).  Turned out to be a great day, it was still windy but the sun was shining so on the trail it was really nice.

Well there you have it my week in a nutshell.  All caught up and ready for the week ahead - talk to you tomorrow

The Weekend Days 105 & 106

The Weekend - I always look so forward to the weekend and it always ends up being so busy - not as relaxing as I would like :)

Saturday was a bit of a relaxing day - I slept in which does not happen a lot.  Then had a busy day of running errands.  Ended up fitting in a 30 minute run with Sarah before dinner and drinks.

Sunday Day 106 - slept in again (just so you know a sleep in for me is 7:30am).  Participated in this great training session at the field at St Mary's school.  This was a training session for the up coming   Met Con Race  being held at Blue Mountain Resort on June 1-3, 2012. The website says that the "Met Con Blue Mountain Adventure Race is the most insane 5km mountain obstacle/adventure race on the planet! Are you ready for 13 gruelling obstacles, 1400 punishing feet of incline, rocky creeks, hills, mud, snow, ice pools, fire, smoke, aliens and Bigfoot?"  Does that not sound fun???  I have not officially signed up yet and I am not sure that I will but I have decided to join the training days on Sunday mornings - lots of friends are doing it, so the social aspect, we all bring our kids - so they get fresh air and exercise too and well it is someone telling you what to do so you just go with the flow - makes it easier :)

Sean and I also got out for an hour ride on our road bikes.   We went out just before dinner and tried out a new route.  It was really fun and there was not much traffic on the back roads so we got to chat and catch up!  We are liking the new bikes.  Oh and we bought a paddle board today - it is currently our coffee table in our living room - we (the entire Rennie family) are looking forward to getting out on the Georgian Bay soon.

Days 103 and 104 The End of the Week

The Week ended fast - I guess that is what you get when you have a 4 day work week.

Day 103 was Thursday - this day started with Active Life Conditioning and a workout with the ladies.  It was my favourite workout - 21 to 9.  I love this one it is hard and is a great cardio workout too.  Lots of legs today which I felt for the rest of the week.

Day 104 - Friday - attended another early morning workout Active Life - this was a really good workout too and more legs :)   I also got together with my friend Christine that I have not seen is a while.  We were trying to figure out where to meet - coffee? lunch? spin class?  then we both realized that we just got road bikes and that both of us do not have much experience so we ended up going for a road ride - lots of fun and we ended up doing 28 kilometres and were out in the fresh air for an hour and 15 minutes (that time includes a stop to chat too!)  Thank for the ride Christine.

Day 101 & 102

Well now over the first hurdle of 100 days and I now have new running shoes so I am good to go. Bring on the next hundred!

Day 101 - Tuesday was a trip to the YMCA in the early morning to take my new shoes for a test run.  Laura my physiotherapist says I should watch my mileage so I just ran 30 minutes on the treadmill and then did an additional 30 minutes on the elliptical.

Day 102- Wednesday was another early morning - a 50 minute run with Sarah.  It was cold and we were a little slower then normal but we managed to pull through and finished strong :)  The new shoes are working out great!

One Hundred Days

Today is a milestone - I have kept my New Years Resolution for 100 days!!!!!  So today I did 100 minutes of physical activity and I tried a new sport.

I started the day with a 10 km/1 hour run with Roxanne bright and early - it was a windy cold one but we made it through none the less.  I also finally got myself some new running shoes - boy they cost a fortune!!  But I figure my feet and knees are worth it - might try them out tomorrow :)

Then after dinner Sean took me for my first road ride.  I was a little nervous but it was a really nice ride - not many cars on the road, still a bit windy which wasn't that bad - slowed us down a little!  We just did a big loop that took us 40 minutes.  It was fun and I think Sean really enjoyed showing me the ropes!

So now only 266 days to go - over 1/4 of the way done!  So far so good :)

Day 99 - Easter Sunday

Happy Easter Sunday.

Today the Easter bunny came to our house and brought us lots of goodies.  It was a relaxing day, in fact I had my PJ's on for most of the day (that never happens) I had a hard time not feeling guilty about just hanging around.  I did get some boxes unpacked and some pictures hung on my bare walls - finally! The kids had an active day - playing road hockey and nerf war at their cousins house for the afternoon, Sean got a road ride in and I did get a 35 minute walk in at the end of the day!

Day 96 & 97

Day 96 - Thursday - it was my morning workout at Active Life this morning.  A full class and some workout friends I have not seen in a while joined today - good to see you Holly. It was a workout full of strength and lots of core!  Then went for a lunch time run at the Y - a good 50 minute run while watching a little TV!!

Day 97 - Friday - another early morning at Active Life and a great class with Laura - although the numbers were low - only 4 of us this morning - we had a great workout.  Figured I would get my workout early since I had an assessment booked with Laura at 7:30 - she was checking out my aching knees.  Well turns out I will be ok - just need to keep an eye on how much I run - I have been running a lot lately and need to try to plan my runs so that my knees can rest.  I do need new shoes - so that is on the priority list for this weekend. I also need to stretch my calves and ankles.

Day 98 - Saturday - today was a full day and day that was full of sorrow - today was Steve Johnson's funeral.  I still cannot believe it is real and I feel sick for Alisha and Grace.  Just know Alisha the "urge" girls are here for you and we will be for years to come and we hope that we can help even just a little getting you through this horrible time in your life.

Knowing that today was going to be busy - including Easter dinner with my family - I headed to the gym early this morning to get in some cardio - a good 5 mile run on the treadmill listening to music I downloaded on my new iphone - that is right I finally got my own so that I don't have to borrow Matthew's anymore.

Day 94 & 95- Remember to Have Fun!

Wow what a week so far.  A tough one for a good friend Alisha, her husband Steve passed away on Monday after a very aggressive fight against Amyloidosis. So in honour of Steve and the new road bike that he bought (to his wife's surprise) and never got to ride I went to spin class this morning.  Wanted to sleep in after a late night but could not sleep so figured I might as well work out.  Managed to get in a 45 minute spin and then after dinner the kids and I walked Defer. That was it for Day 95.

Tuesday - Day 94 was a workout at Active Life - I really liked the workout today - it was the 200 workout - so we had 10 strength exercises and 20 reps.  The goal was to do as many rounds of the 10 exercises in the time allotted.  Felt good today.  Also managed to catch the Kelly Live show while running 5 miles on the treadmill - needed the extra cardio since Easter treats seem to be making their way to my mouth???

Remember to make time to do the things you love and give those you love a hug and tell them you love them.

Day 93 - It's a Dog Day

Monday April 2nd, 2012 - Day 93

Today included a very difficult 30 minute run - body just did not want to cooperate - would have loved to have been able to get in a long run today but no such luck.  Did have a great evening walk with the kids and Dfer (my brother in laws dog)  We walked over to the Reid's house to meet their newest addition - Cedar an 8 week old golden retriever - so cute!  Forgot that having a dog is a great way to get your physical activity in without even thinking about it!

*just a note that I messed up the numbers for the days - I counted day 86 twice - don't worry I did not miss a day :)  Right back on track now!

Day 90 & 91 - The Weekend

This weekend had us in New Market, St Thomas and London.  It was a busy one and I was trying to take it easy on my knees - so both days consisted of a brisk 35 minute walk.  Saturday night was through the old neighbourhood where I grew up - I was showing Sean where all my friends lived and where we hung out.  Sunday we were home late - I got the kids to bed and then walked through my new neighbourhood in Collingwood -still getting familiar with all the side streets.
