So as we all head into the new year we are all faced with the concept of New Years resolutions. Oh I have made
them before only to fall short of my goal as life (family and work) take over my good intentions. So this year I decided to get my friend Angela involved in my New Year resolution so that I have to be accountable to someone other than myself. Oh, I guess this would be a good place to tell you what my New Years Resolutionis.........well the plan is to be
physically active for a minimum of 30 minutes for all 365 days of the year. That is right every single day of 2012. So now you might be asking why are you blogging about it? Well Angela and I were trying to figure out how to keep each other on track, she lives in London and I live in Collingwood. We tried google calendar but that was really frustrating and then Angela sent me an excel sheet that had dates on it and that is not that much fun. So when I was snowshoeing the other day I thought to myself maybe I should blog about our efforts - make us accountable not only to each other but anyone else who might be interested in what we are up to. So that is the beginning of this blog I hope you enjoy and I look forward to your comments.

Day 88 & 89

Thursday  - Day 88 - was a great early morning workout at Active Life - it was the Gladiator workout! A good cardio and strength combined workout.

Friday - Day 89 - this morning the wind was blowing and I did not want to get out of bed.  But my mind took over trying to figure out when else I could fit my physical fitness in during my day - no other time! by the time I worked that all out I was awake -  So I turned the alarm off and jumped out of bed and headed to the YMCA - too cold, windy and dark for an outside workout by myself this morning. I did the spin portion of the spin and yoga class - so 30 minutes of spin then jumped on the elliptical for 25 minutes (trying to give my knees a break - haven't got the new shoes yet!!!) Then my plan was to finish with a 10 minute run - just to get over the 1 hour mark.  Well I got caught up in a show on HGTV and ended up running for 30 minutes - so a good cardio morning and my knees don't hurt either - bonus!  Good thing I got up early would not have been able to get in a workout today if I had not :)

Day 87 - Middle of the Week

Today is Wednesday - hump day - middle of the week!  Unfortunately my early morning running friends were not able to make it this morning - I did not find out until I was already out of bed and dressed.  So I made myself go to the Y and jumped into the spin class that was already in progress. So I managed to get in a 35 minute spin and then finished it off with a 25 minute run on the treadmill.  I really need to get new running shoes this weekend - I am currently icing my knees! I hope it is my shoes :)

Oh and Sean wanted me to let everyone know that his team won the Creemore Cup - the elementary teachers Wednesday night hockey league.  So all 3 boys won their division of hockey - what a proud mom/wife I am :)

Day 86 - Last Day of Hockey

Today was the fifth and final game for the Collingwood Blackhawks Atom #1 local league team (Matthew's team).  They played Stayner and came out fighting  - they scored in the first 9 seconds and were winning 3-0 going into the 2nd period. Stayner managed to come back to make it 4-3 with 2 minutes left in the third period - but Collingwood held on and won the "Georgian Bay Triangle Local League Atom 'C' pool Championship - what a great game Collingwood!!

Collingwood and Stayner Teams

The Team Trophy

That was Matthew's physical activity for today and mine was not as fun or exciting - just a quick run at lunch on the treadmill - managed to get in 5.5 miles and caught up on Days of Our Lives!

Day 85 & 86 - Run, Run, Run

The end of the weekend and the beginning of the new week.  Still tons to do with unpacking - boxes everywhere and no where to put the stuff that is in them! So the last couple of days I have been running away by physically running.....

Sunday - Day 85 was a 10 km run with Roxanne and Heather - great way to start the day but I did not get as many boxes unpacked as I was hoping for during the rest of the day!

Monday - Day 86 - Monday morning ladies conditioning class at Active Life was a great one!  I was not pleased with the cold weather when I headed out the door at 6 am and liked it even less when I went for a run in the afternoon - 30 minutes of cold wind at every turn - I didn't even warm up - I want the weather from last week back!

Day 82, 83 & 84 - So Tired

Well the move is officially over - well all our stuff is out of the house in Clarksburg - we now have to find room for it all - it really is amazing how much stuff we collected over 13 years!

The rest of the week included lots of moving and lots of physical activity but I still managed to fit in my minimum 30 minutes of timed physical activity.

Thursday - Day 82 - was my early morning workout at Active Life - always a great way to wake up.  I also fit in a 30 minute run on the treadmill over lunch - in between moving a ton of junk!

Friday - Day 83 - went to the YMCA early in the morning for a spin class - I did not know that the spin class was half a yoga class.  I really want to add Yoga to my workouts but I really wanted some hard core cardio this morning.  So when the 30 minutes of the spin class was over I turned up Matthew's ipod and continued on my own for another 30 minutes.  I then went to the treadmill for an additional little push - was aiming for 15 minutes but ended up pushing it to 30 minutes.  Then to the house in Clarksburg for one last pick up.  The house is officially not ours anymore - closed at 2pm - 13 years for great memories - married, 2 kids, a dog, 2 more university degrees and lots of great friends :)

Saturday - Day 84 - I am so tired - everything has finally caught up to me!  My first 30 minutes of physical activity was going to pick up my car from where I left it last night.  Out with some great friends and Sean and I were not able to drive home - so first thing this morning was my "clear my head' and "get the car" walk.  I am now heading out for a little 30 minute light job to wake myself up before we head out to a birthday party :)

Day 81 - A Little Push

Wednesday

I have gotten to the point in this adventure that I need to pick it up a bit - challenge myself a little more.  I have thought that I would really like to pay more attention to what I eat.  Not that I eat badly but I think I would really like to eat better - have a better understanding of what my body needs and what I am eating and how it impacts how I feel, perform and function.  I also feel like I need a little challenge physically - you know like a little push to get to the next level.  Well my run this morning with Sarah and Jen was the starting point.  6:30 am and we were off running - running fast and we kept running fast - I didn't like it but I kept going because I did not want to be the first to stop - turns out we were all thinking the same thing - we were all going fast and not stopping because we did not want to be the first!  I think this was one of the best runs I have ever had and it really did push me to go past my limits which is what I wanted to do - so thanks girls and I look forward to next Wednesday so we can push each other just a little more!

Day 79 & 80 Still Moving

Well the move continues and continues - I know it will come to an end it has to -  we have to turn in the keys Friday!  So until then we keep Moving and cleaning!!!!

Today (Day 80) was a busy day - it started with me taking the trailer on the back of the RAV4 to the landfill to get rid of some recycling and garbage.  This was the first time I have ever driven with a trailer on the vehicle I was driving - I must say I was a little nervous - but I am good at it - even backed it up and got the trailer to go in the direction that I wanted it to!!!! Then a little cleaning and then back to the office in Collingwood to get some work done and get kids from school.  Then another trip out to Clarksburg with Sean to get another trailer load of stuff (did I mention that we have too much stuff!?!?!).  Then the day continued with Matthew's hockey game - this was game number 3 in the best of 5 series and Stayner was up 2 games to none - but the Collingwood team pulled it together and played a fantastic game and dominated the whole time and ended up pushing the series to game 4 with a 6-1 win - way to go Collingwood. So you probably noticed that I have not mentioned anything about my exercise that is because I just got it in - a brisk 30 minute walk around the neighbourhood!

Day 79 - Monday was a great 6:15 am workout at Active Life followed by a 40 minute run on the treadmill.  An you guessed it moving stuff and cleaning - so much fun!

Day 78 - The Big Moving Day

Well I got up early today knowing that today was going to be a long and busy day.  My intention was to get my workout first thing but I got side tracked as soon as I hit the kitchen.  I thought to myself I will just make some muffins so that the kids and helpers have snacks for today - it did not quite work out to be just one batch of muffins I ended up making another batch and some sweet potato soup for a friend that is in TO with her husband that is in the hospital.  I needed to make this stuff today as another friend of mine was heading down there first thing Monday to help her out.  So by the time I finished all of that and the clean up it was really late in the morning - well late for me 9am - and the rest of the family was up and ready to go - so so much for the early morning workout.

Then the preparation for the move began - we needed to return all of the furniture that was kindly lent to us (all of our furniture was at the old house - we had to keep it staged and then we rented it)  and you know when you move furniture there are dust bunnies so I had to clean in preparation for our furniture.  Oh and Matthew had a playoff game smack dab (i have never used that word before!) in the middle of the day - it was close one they lost by one - hard over March Break we were missing 5 of our players!

Then after the hockey game was the move of the furniture by the time all of that was done it was 10pm and I still had not gotten in my 30 minutes - so I stole - ok borrowed- Matthew's ipod and off I went for a 30 minute brisk walk.  I think today was the closest I have come to missing a workout but it all worked out in the end!

Day 77 - Swimming in March?

Today was a really busy day - I cannot wait to sleep in!!!  Started the day at the YMCA on the treadmill at 7:30 am - there is nothing on TV Saturday mornings - so thankfully I had borrowed Matthew's IPOD touch and decided to do some interval training - well sort of - I decided to run really fast for the first minute of each new song - it actually got the heart rate up and was kinda fun! Had planned on only running for 30 minutes but Matthew's play list was so motivating I ended up running for 60 minutes. The rest of the day included Matthew's hockey game, moving more stuff and then dinner at Sunset park - right on the Georgian Bay.  The weather today was crazy warm - I think I heard on CBC that it was 18 degrees warmer than normal. Well after dinner the kids decided they wanted to see how cold the water was - well not cold enough because Matthew, Kade and Jayden went in.  That is right they went swimming in Georgian Bay on March 17th! The funniest part was that Jayden was skiing only 3 hours before - crazy!

Day 76 - Let the Move Begin

Well today is the last day of March Break and I decided to take the day off - not to enjoy a small part of the March break or to take in the warm air and sun shine but to get some stuff out of the Clarksburg house because it is SOLD and we have a week to finish cleaning out the barn and move our furniture.  So today was filled with lifting and squatting and stretching and we got lots of stuff done.  Then at the end of the day I was able to sneak in a 40 minute walk around the neighbourhood.  Felt great and hopefully it will help me sleep since we still have lots of moving left!!

Day 75 - No Worries

Thursday morning and off to Active Life for my ladies conditioning class in a thunderstorm!  The storm could not keep me away today.  Had a great strength workout and then followed it up with a 35 minute run.  Wanted to get in a run before I had some minor surgery today since I am not sure if I will be able to run right away.  Nothing to worry about I am sure that I will be able to walk to keep the New Year Resolution going!!!  I can't stop now!  It is however interesting how worried I was that I would miss a day - this just goes to show when you start something and put your mind to it you can achieve anything - it also helps that I have all of you keeping me motivated!

Day 74 - Run Forest Run

An early morning brisk run with Sarah at 6:30 - it was a good one and exactly what I needed - the extra push to pick it up a notch.  We ran a fast 6 km and then when we parted to go our separate ways (back home) I continued right past my house and kept going until I reached 10 km.  The second half of the run was a little slow but it was still running.  Turns out Sarah did the same thing I did :)

Day 73 - Outside Work

So Tuesday Day 73 started with Active Life Conditioning and a great workout with the ladies.  For work I was actually outside today doing site visits.  It is really rare that I get to go out for site visits on a nice day.  It ended up being and hour and a half of trekking through over 250 acres of farm fields and woodlots.  Always an added bonus when you get exercise while making money!

Day 72 - Who Changed the Clock?

Well I survived the time change on Sunday but it got me first thing this morning!  Plan was to go for a run with Sarah at 6:30 - that is a sleep in considering I usually go at 6:00 am.  Well for some reason the back up alarm (the radio clock) did not go off and my internal alarm clock set for 5:30 went off at 6:30 - the exact time I was suppose to be meeting Sarah for our run.  Thankfully I had organized my running stuff Sunday night and I was able to get out the door 10 minutes later!  Needless to say the run was fast and really nice considering the temperature - I actually over dressed :)  So my 45 minute run is done!

Days 69, 70 & 71 A Weekend for Ken

This weekend was for Ken - Angela's (my partner in exercise) dad.  Ken Mol died in a motorcycle accident in Florida on February 24th and this weekend was his celebration of life and his funeral.

Day 69 was a 45 minute run on the treadmill first think in the morning.  It was a cold morning and a busy day including a drive to London.  The drive was the worst drive I have had in a long time - roads were closed, complete white outs and over 4.5 hours for a typical 3 hour drive.

Day 70 - today I went for an early morning walk through the neighbourhood I grew up in.  I walked past houses and places that I hung out at during my teenage years.  I went by the house that Angela grew up in and remembered all of the times that I spent at her house - we would go there a lot - after working at the mall, after school, and almost every day in the summer.  Things I remember about being at her house are frozen bagels, ice burg lettuce salads with thousand Island dressing, Bart the worlds biggest dog, Ken working in the garage on either a motorcycle or someones car, tormenting Angela's sister Elissa, prank calling Kevin's house (he lived at the end of her street and was really cute - this was in a time when there was no call display)  so many good times with not a care in the world.
The funeral for Ken was beautiful and Angela did an amazing job on the eulogy - a fabulous tribute to her dad - what  strong and beautiful women Ken raised.

Day 71 - Sunday - today was time with the family - the weather definitely changed for the the better and warmed up extremely and Sean decided we needed to dust off our bikes (his was not dusty since he has been riding to work all winter - has not missed a day)  so off we went for ride through town - a town that we have yet to discover. It is amazing what can be accomplished during a 2 hour bike ride - helped moved a sign for Mountain Chiropractor, got Kade a new bike, and visited the candy store. We then took Matthew to a hockey practise and  moved two loads of outdoor stuff from the old house to the Collingwood house.  At the end of the day the boys were watching some silly show on TV so I decided to go for a walk instead of being sucked into the show!  It was a great idea!

Day 68 - Thursday Windy Spring Day

Today started at 6 am with the ladies conditioning class with Sarah at Active Life Conditioning  and focused on core and upper body.  I think I will feel this one tomorrow!  I also managed to get a quick 40 minute treadmill run in at lunch at the YMCA - felt good to sweat!

Day 65, 66 & 67 Family Time

Monday was the first day of week (no kidding) but it was also the first day of the next session of the ladies conditioning group at Active Life Conditioning and it was testing day.  Testing day includes a quick set of tests - strength or cardio - that are measured and then we do the same tests at the end of the session to show our improvements.  So now that we have that under our belt we are good to go for this session!

Tuesday (Day 66) was a busy day and I found myself at the end of the day starting to stress about getting my 30 minutes in.  Sean had heard that it was Oreo's 100th anniversary and he thought we should celebrate - with an Oreo blizzard from Dairy Queen.  The kids agreed.  So here was my chance to get some company for my evening workout.  I proposed that we walk to Dairy Queen to get the treat - well the agreed and off we went.  Worked out great - we got a 40 minute walk in and we enjoyed a mini blizzard half way through the walk.  Worked out so great that Matthew suggested that we should always walk when we are going to go to Dairy Queen that way will have earned our treat - great idea Matthew!

Wednesday (Day 67) I now know why I work out first thing on Wednesday mornings because it is impossible to fit it in any other time during the day.  Wednesdays always seem to be my busiest day at work and the evening - well even busier with family things!  Again I found myself stressing about fitting in my 30 minutes for the day - Sean and Matthew were out so I did not have anyone to look after Kade so the only option was to figure out something to do with him.  Since the weather was nice - still over 10 degrees after 7pm - I decided to see if he would be interested in going for walk with me - it was a tough sell - he thought he should just go home and rest as he had had a long day! But when I mentioned that it would be just us he seemed more willing. And we had a great time walking through the neighbourhood, talking and holding hands (I know so cute)  I even got the odd I Love you mom and kisses! Best 40 minute walk ever :)

Day 64 - Sunday is Fun Day

Sunday came fast and provided us with more stressful hockey.  Matthew had a tournament game that ended in a shoot out that was won by the opposing team - they played great.  Kade played the finals for the novice house league division.  Another nail bitter of a game - ended in a 1-0 win for their team - Congratulations Collingwood Red!

Hockey dominated our day - we even watched our nephew Dylan's game but I managed to get an hour run on the treadmill at the YMCA this afternoon.

Day 62 & 63 - Skiing and Hockey Fun!!!!

Day 62 - Friday Collingwood Ski Club Ladies Day

The day started with a fabulous breakfast at the Collingwood Ski Club and then a few hours of great skiing with some great ladies.  Also you never know who you might meet up with on the hills on ladies day - we found some vikings who were out skiing in the great white north!

The afternoon included a great and fast up hill snow shoe before a night of great food, drinks and dancing.

Day 63 - Hockey Mania

This day included 4 kid hockey games - yes 4 games - 2 kids - 2 different towns - 2 playoff games. What a stressful day - If nerves and cheering counted as physical activity I would have hours under my belt. Kade's team (7 year olds) had their semi final game first thing Saturday morning and it was an end of your seat type of game - they managed to pull of a win in the third period of sudden death over time - yes stressful.  Matthew's team (9 &10 year olds) had to win their game today to continue in the playoffs - they were playing a team that killed them earlier in the week and we were going into the game after playing 2 games in a tournament early in the day.  Those boys dug deep and came out with their guns a blazing and I think shocked the other team (including us their parents) and won 5-2 to keep themselves a live.  So with all that hockey I did not have a lot of time for myself today but don't worry I still managed to fit in a 30 minute brisk walk before heading out for the evening with some DIVA ladies to enjoy a little swiss fun - thanks ladies!

Day 59 to 61 - Two Months Down

Sorry for being so tarty in my posting.  It has been a crazy week, lots of work, sick kids and everything with Angela has thrown me off.  But I have managed to fit in my minimum 30 minutes of exercise for the last 3 days.  Here is a quick run through.

Day 59 - Tuesday February 28th - a great workout at Active Life Conditioning - lots of new stuff and my legs still feel it today.

Day 60 - Wednesday February 29th - this is the day that was the surprise day -that extra day in February for leap year -  so really my new years resolution is now 366 days of physical activity.  Today was an early morning run with Sarah - a fast 6 km - a great push for me to pick up my pace.

Day 61 - Thursday March 1st - two months down and I feel great - have managed to get in my exercise everyday and have even been trying to make it 60 minutes.  I am feeling great and have managed to lose my pre-Christmas and Christmas weight gain and am down a few pound from that too - 14 pounds so far - which is also helping to motivate me to keep going.  Today was the day that I got the call from the school to say that I needed to pick up Kade from school because he was sick - of course this was just as I was heading out the door to go to the YMCA.  Thankfully there was a drop in class at Active Life in the evening that I was able to get to - lots of fun too - PUSH YOUR PACE was the class - it was co-ed and it was a great cardio strength workout - just what I needed to end the day!!!!!

Tomorrow is Ladies Ski Day at the Collingwood Ski Club - I hope to get a little skiing and snow shoeing in - will fill you in on all the details - well maybe not ALL the details.
