So as we all head into the new year we are all faced with the concept of New Years resolutions. Oh I have made
them before only to fall short of my goal as life (family and work) take over my good intentions. So this year I decided to get my friend Angela involved in my New Year resolution so that I have to be accountable to someone other than myself. Oh, I guess this would be a good place to tell you what my New Years Resolutionis.........well the plan is to be
physically active for a minimum of 30 minutes for all 365 days of the year. That is right every single day of 2012. So now you might be asking why are you blogging about it? Well Angela and I were trying to figure out how to keep each other on track, she lives in London and I live in Collingwood. We tried google calendar but that was really frustrating and then Angela sent me an excel sheet that had dates on it and that is not that much fun. So when I was snowshoeing the other day I thought to myself maybe I should blog about our efforts - make us accountable not only to each other but anyone else who might be interested in what we are up to. So that is the beginning of this blog I hope you enjoy and I look forward to your comments.

Days 231 & 232

The weekend again.  This weekend we were picking Matthew up from Hockey sleep over camp - unfortunatley for us it is 3 hours away which makes for a long drive when you do it in one day.  But it was worth it - Mathew had a great time and learned a new sport while there - water skiing,

Saturday - Day 231 - we are still at the Cheek's cottage - which put us an hour closer to Matthew making for only a 5 hour drive today.  Got up early with Lesley to walk the cottage neighbourhood.  There are some nice cottages in that area.  It was good to get the minimum workout in the morning too as I was not sure how I would feel at the end of the long drive - turns out did not feel like working out!!
Sunday - Day 232 - this weekend was the season end house league soccer tournament and Kade had a game at 8:30 am - so I decided to run to the field - got in a good 5 km run and my back is back!!!!

Days 226 to 230

Another summer week and the 30 minutes of physical activity continues.  This week was a little more difficult as I hurt my back somehow and was not able to do as much hard core cardio as I would have liked.  Still managed to do something every day though!

Monday - Day 226 - today was a nice 5 km run to flush the legs from my long run yesterday.

Tuesday - Day 227 - got up early for Active Life Conditioning class - what a great workout.

Wednesday - Day 228 - today is when my back started to hurt - a lot!! So I took it easy and did a brisk 30 minute walk.

Thursday - Day 229 - back still hurts so just another brisk 30 minute walk.

Friday - Day 230 - Sean and I were lucky enough to invited to the Cheeks cottage - since the day was so busy and we wanted to get up there at a reasonable hour I did not fit in my 30 minutes during the day.  I did however convince Lesley to walk with my at the cottage after dinner - such a beautiful place - looking forward to going there next year :)

Days 224 & 225 Run Forest!

The weekend - finally - why do short week always seem so long???????

Saturday - Day 224 - what a great day - got up early to get the boys off to their rugby tournament in Fergus and then went for a great 8 km run.  The rest of the day was great too, even though I had to do a little work.  Hit the Collingwood farmers market and finished packing for Matthew's hockey camp.

Sunday - Day 225 - today Matthew is off to Hockey Opportunity Camp - his first time at an overnight camp.  It is 3 hours away and today is long run day so I had to get up early to fit it all in.  It is amazing, like I have mentioned before, how much easier it is to push yourself when you have a partner.  We got in a great 14 km run and explored some new areas in Collingwood.  Just so you know we got Matthew settled at camp - I am sure he is going to have a blast this week - I even got a hug and kiss goodbye!!!  The 3 hour drive home was painful - seemed really long and my legs did not like it!!!!!

Days 220 to 223 - The Dog Days of Summer

Well the long weekend is over and it is back to reality.  It is a short week but they always seem to be super busy and go really slow!!!

Tuesday - Day 220 - Well the weekend workouts wore me out and the back to work for the whole day took its toll so I only managed to get in a 30 minute walk with Kade (he rode his longboard) after soccer.

Wednesday - Day 221 - my calves were really sore from my long run on Monday and it was another long day at the office.  But I did manage to make my way through a 5 km run before bed!

Thursday - Day 222 - got up early this morning and went to Active Life and had a great workout!

Friday - Day 223 - calves still really sore - I also had some physio therapy this week to try and help. I also got caught up in watching the Olympics so did not get in my workout until well into the night - just a good 40 minute walk to flush the calves!

Well the August long weekend is here and we are still in Grand Bend enjoying the Beach and lots of fun family time.

Saturday - Day 217 - today was filled with lots swimming, sand castle building and watching the Olympics.  Amongst the fun I managed a quick 5 km run.

Sunday - Day 218 - another day of fun in the sun - at least in the afternoon after the rain disappeared.  Such a great day playing in the waves that it got away from me and I snuck out for another 5 km run just before dinner and evening of family fun!

Monday - Day 219 - last day at the cottage and beach so I got up really early and put in my long run.  15 km this morning running with the birds and bunnies.

Days 212 to 216 - Riding, Sand & Sunsets

Well this is our week at Grand Bend.  It is amazing how much time you have for fun and exercise when you aren't at home and don't have to work (well not work too much - I did have a satellite office to deal with a few projects that are on going right now).  The weather has been amazing and we have had lots of great beach time! Lots of fun paddle boarding and kayaking too!

Monday - Day 212 - Sean and I continued with our road riding and went exploring the area checking out some new roads.  We ended up getting in a 40 km ride.

Tuesday - Day 213 - today was my long run.  Have to keep up with Heather and her training schedule - she ran her 14 km on Sunday so this run has been looming over my head for a couple of days.  It was a hot morning and I had some company for part of the ride - Kade and Carter lead the way on their bikes - I actually think it made me run faster trying to keep them in my sight.  Run felt good and my knees did not hurt today!

Wednesday - Day 214 - another great day at the beach but the day started with a 20 k bike ride with Lesley and then a quick 5 km run.

Thursday - Day 215 - unfortunately today I had to leave Grand Bend and head home for a couple of meetings.  So the majority of the day I was working or driving.  Once I got back to the cottage I took Kali, my brothers dog for walk through the cottage neigbourhood. Nice to be back!

Friday - Day 216 - got out for another road ride with my husband - another route and more kilometres.  Got close to 50 km - my iphone died just before the end so not exactly sure but I know we were close!

Well I am heading back to the beach for a couple of days - we are here until Monday!!!

Days 210 & 211 - Beach Here We Come!

Well we are finally here - Grand Bend for the week - the cottage we rent we have rented since I was a teenager - lots of fun and family time!

Saturday - Day 210 - if you have been following my blog you know that my husband Sean has been not as active as he would like due to a pinched nerve in his neck - well he is back and want to get in some great road rides while we are here in Grand Bend so we brought our road bikes.  So we went for a good ride today - I am not as hesitant now that I have learned some key elements from the Pedal Pushers clinic.  So off we went and we kept doing for 35 km.  If you know Sean you know he has really strong legs - so this was a big workout for me to keep in his draft so I could actually ride with him.  It is great riding with him!

the cottage & the bike
Sunday - Day 211 - 8 years ago today I gave birth to my youngest son Kade - he is an amazing kid - so today was all about him.  He decided he wanted a beach party for his birthday theme.  So we headed to the beach for the day and ended it with friends and family at the cottage for our beach themed party.  My workout day was lots of running in the water playing kids against the parents keep away and then ended it with a 30 minute walk after the party was all cleaned up!

Kade at his beach party!

Looking forward to a week filled with beach time and lots of fun activities!

Days 205 to 209 - Kicking it up a Notch

Well this week was a busy one with getting ready for another week of holidays - heading to Grand Bend Saturday for a little cottage life!  Here is how the week worked out!

Monday - Day 205 - well this was a long run night - since Heather has decided to run the half marathon in October at Blue Mountain (I have yet to fully commit to the race - the training no problem count me in!) we have to start adding kilometres to our weekly long run. So tonight was a 13 km run - it is amazing how much easier it is to do it with friend - we were successful although my knees did hurt a little - need to keep an eye on that!

Tuesday - Day 206 - Today was an early morning workout at Active Life  - today was full of cardio and lots of strength - I love my Active Life workouts!

Wednesday - Day 207 - busy day with kids stuff and work so only managed a 30 minute brisk walk late in the day.

Thursday - Day 208 - another morning at Active Life - today was all about kicking tires, pulling ropes and working really hard - so glad I got up early today!!  When I got home everyone was still asleep so I went for a 6 km run - which was a wet one - got caught I a major down pour for basically the entire run - of course the only rain we have had for a month!  At least it was warm :)

Friday - Day 209 - today was our travel day to get close to Grand Bend - we went to London to deal with some tenant issues.  It was a long hot and rainy day in London and by the end of it I had not gotten in my 30 minutes - So Matthew and I headed to Walmart - yes Walmart - it was thunder storming so we walked in Walmart - we felt like those mall walkers and I am sure that the security cameras were having a hay day with us - back and forth up the the isles and around the outside loop for 30 minutes - we got it in just before closing!!!!

Days 203 & 204 - On the Road Again

Saturday - Day 203 - today I participated in a Pedal Pushers clinic - this is a clinic run by my friend Noelle that is an introduction to road riding - check out the website!  The first page states  "Learn to Ride…Learn to Train… Learn to Race…At your own Pace!"  What a great day - to be honest I have been a little intimated to ride my new road bike - the cars, the hills, the downhills.  But the clinic was amazing we worked on shifting, climbing hills and going fast downhill - I was so much more confident after and couldn't wait to get out there again.  Thanks Noelle!  I also rode up Grey Road 19 - which I can say was not as hard as I had made it out to be in my mind!

Sunday - Day 204 - a busy day hanging out with the kids, biking, paddleboarding and then I finished it off with a great 6.5 km run with Heather!
