So as we all head into the new year we are all faced with the concept of New Years resolutions. Oh I have made
them before only to fall short of my goal as life (family and work) take over my good intentions. So this year I decided to get my friend Angela involved in my New Year resolution so that I have to be accountable to someone other than myself. Oh, I guess this would be a good place to tell you what my New Years Resolutionis.........well the plan is to be
physically active for a minimum of 30 minutes for all 365 days of the year. That is right every single day of 2012. So now you might be asking why are you blogging about it? Well Angela and I were trying to figure out how to keep each other on track, she lives in London and I live in Collingwood. We tried google calendar but that was really frustrating and then Angela sent me an excel sheet that had dates on it and that is not that much fun. So when I was snowshoeing the other day I thought to myself maybe I should blog about our efforts - make us accountable not only to each other but anyone else who might be interested in what we are up to. So that is the beginning of this blog I hope you enjoy and I look forward to your comments.

24 Hours of Summer Solstice

Well this weekend has finally arrived - it is the big bike race - the 24 Hour Summer Solstice - this is a 24 hour bike race that we, Sean and I, have participated in for many years.  It is a relay mountain biking race.  It is a great weekenkend filled with mountain biking, camping, kids running and riding around, friend and lots of fun!

Day 174 - Friday - we decide to head down early to the race to get set up and to get a ride in before the race starts on Saturday at noon.  Matthew and I did the loop together it was lots of fun with lots of good up hills.  I was really impressed with Matthew and how well he rode - won't be long before he is better then me. Next year he will be able to participate in the relay - you have to be 12.

Day 175 - Saturday - on your mark get set go!!!!!!  The race started at noon today and I was the 5th rider - we scheduled it so that I could see the kids in their races.  Kade and his buddy Jayden rocked it in their division - coming 2 and 1 respectively.  Matthew was in a big division with a lot older riders but he still managed to come in the top 10 in a close race - again really impressed with his riding.  Actually the Collingwood kids did great in all age groups and really dominated the races.  I think part of it is that our trails in Collingwood are a lot more technical then the race today so they were able to really hammer during the race - it was really exciting to watch these kids and their accomplishments.

Day 176 - Sunday - second loop of the race was nice and early - 8 am - not as many racers on the course - temperature was good, legs a little tired but they eventually warmed up! Had some technical difficulties this loop, chain came off a couple of times and my seat kept slowly lowering itself but still enjoyed the ride. Have to note one moment in the ride, just when I was running out of steam - there was a long steep rock path downhill followed by a quick and sharp sandy switchback - I just rode it and did pass two guys that had pulled off to the side - well the guy riding it behind me yelled out to me that I "rocked it" and he was impressed! I guess that is because I am a girl - but I really did rock it!!!! What a great weekend!

Just wanted to note that I am really proud of Sean - he was not able to ride this year due to his pinched nerve - this is his favourite event of the year - I think Sean was born on a bike - well he did come second in the freezie eating contest! So proud - oh Kade came second in his age group too - following in his dads footsteps :)
