So as we all head into the new year we are all faced with the concept of New Years resolutions. Oh I have made
them before only to fall short of my goal as life (family and work) take over my good intentions. So this year I decided to get my friend Angela involved in my New Year resolution so that I have to be accountable to someone other than myself. Oh, I guess this would be a good place to tell you what my New Years Resolutionis.........well the plan is to be
physically active for a minimum of 30 minutes for all 365 days of the year. That is right every single day of 2012. So now you might be asking why are you blogging about it? Well Angela and I were trying to figure out how to keep each other on track, she lives in London and I live in Collingwood. We tried google calendar but that was really frustrating and then Angela sent me an excel sheet that had dates on it and that is not that much fun. So when I was snowshoeing the other day I thought to myself maybe I should blog about our efforts - make us accountable not only to each other but anyone else who might be interested in what we are up to. So that is the beginning of this blog I hope you enjoy and I look forward to your comments.

Days 301 & 302 - Hockey, Hockey, Hockey

This weekend was filled with hockey - Kade had a tournament in Schomberg and Matthew had regular season games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So not much time this weekend to do anything for me! Also I little milestone weekend - I am into the 300's and am closing in on the end of the year - only 66 days to go! I need to start thinking about what I am going to have as my new year resolution for 2013?

Saturday - Day 301 - we did not have to head out for Kade's tournament until later in the morning so I was able to fit in a workout at Active Life - the "push your pace" class.  This class was a strength/cardio workout - lots of sweat.  A fabulous way to start the day that will be in a hockey arena!

Sunday - Day 302 - turned out to be a great morning weather wise and with the threat of bad weather to come for the coming week Graeme decided to get the kids together for some outside games - capture the flag and man hunt.  There were 6 parents (I was the only mom) and probably close to 20 kids playing in harbourview park.  I have not played capture the flag in ages - it was a really fun hour of running around playing with the kids.  The of course we were off to hockey!

Days 296 to 300 - Week Two of Detox

Well I made it through week one of the cleanse and now am into week two.  I feel great and am not having any trouble staying on course!

Monday - Day 296 - an early morning at Active Life - it was a hard one, extremely hard.  It hurt but when it was over I felt like I conquered it!!!

Tuesday - Day 297 - a busy day and while dinner was cooking - I was trying a new recipe from pinterest- I was able to fit in a 5k run.

Wednesday - Day 298 - Matthew had his "train to train" program - so while I waited for him I got a in a 6 km run - it was not a great one my legs felt like lead but I pushed through.

Thursday - Day 299 - an early morning workout at Active Life - another great one to end this session.  This was the last day of my cleanse too - it was Sean's Birthday today and he wanted to go out for dinner - I managed to stay on the cleanse while eating out - had a great fish dinner at a new place in Collingwood - the kids even loved their fish too!

Friday - Day 300 - today was Kade's first hockey tournament -so it was a busy day getting work done so we could get to the tournament.  Did not get my workout before the tournament so had to get it in once we got home which was late - so I headed out for a run shortly after 10.  The plan was a quick 30 minute run but it 5 k seemed so easy I continued on and managed a great 10 k run.

Days 294 & 295

A weekend full of hockey and getting jobs done around the house. The kids were in TO with Grandpa at a Toronto Football Club game so Sean and I got to work, replacing light fixtures and getting other jobs done that have been on the list forever!!

Saturday - Day 294 - with all that work getting done around the house I ran out of time before having to be a friends 40th surprise birthday party. So my 30 minutes was a great walk around the neighbourhood with my super supportive husband after the party!

Sunday - Day 295 - another great day of getting some stuff done around the house then off to pick up kids half way up from TO. It was also Sean's birthday dinner at his mom's house so I ran to the dinner - a good 6km run! Am still being good on the cleanse - no pasta for me - just veggies and sauce and no cake. That was the hardest because Dairy Queen ice cream cake is my favourite.

Days 289 to 293 - The Cleanse

Well this is officially the week of my cleanse, a cleanse to cleanse my body, mind and soul.  Ok really just my internal system and to curb my sugary habits.  A cleanse to get me back on track!

Monday - Day 289 - today was my early morning workout with Steph at Active Life.  Was not sure how it would go as I was a little hungry going in to the workout.  But it was a great cardio workout.

Tuesday - Day 290 - prepped a lot of veggies today - still sticking to the cleanse.  This cleanse is one where you are able to eat a lot of great foods and really just are avoiding such things are wheat and other flours, diary except butter? and sugar.  I made a great roasted cherry tomato soup on Sunday which is delicious and I think my (& Matthew's) favourite soup ever - so that has been great for lunches. I had the honour of running with Heather - recent half marathoner (1hour 50 minute finish) - this evening got in a great 5 km.

Wednesday - Day 291- a long day - very hungry and very busy - ran for 45 minutes at the end of the day once everyone else was taken care of!

Thursday - Day 292 - great am workout first thing in the morning with the ladies at Active Life.

Friday - Day 293 - 6th day on the cleanse - sticking to it and eating lots of veggies and almonds!  Had a great little run to round out the day - 6 km.

Days 287 & 288 - Detox Time

Too much turkey still and I feel like I still need to eat so much to satisfy myself!  So I have decided to do a 12 day cleanse - the Wild Rose Herbal Detox. A couple of friends have recently completed it and said it was doable - so here I go - got a couple of other friend to join me -so we can keep each other motivated and share with some cooking.  Wish me luck!

Saturday - Day 287 - well I have discovered my new favourite thing to do on Saturday mornings - meet my friends at Active Life for Push Your Pace and then go out for coffee/tea - I feel so grown up!  So today was a great workout and a great social with some great friends.

Sunday - Day 288 - the first day of the cleanse - I spent a lot of time today doing research, planning food, buying food and preparing food. All good food and I am all set for this week - which I think will be the key to being successful.  So after all that prepping I got out in the evening (after kids orgainzied for bed) for a brisk 50 minutes sprint walk with Lorraine - her legs are shorter than mine but boy are they fast!!

Days 283 to 286 - Waking up from Turkey Coma

So here we are the week after Thanksgiving weekend with full bellies and our fridges full of leftovers.  I LOVE turkey but really I can only eat it for so long for lunch and dinner everyday!! I wish I had more leftover pumpkin pie though!

Tuesday - Day 283 - well with the leftover turkey dinner cleaned up I headed out for a great 45 minutes walk through town.  I was suppose to hit Active Life in the early morning but ended up sleeping through my alarm - that turkey coma?

Wednesday - Day 284- feeling a little more brisk today got in a good 5km run - felt good.

Thursday - Day 285 - back to my routine - Active Life early morning routine - what a great workout with a great group of girls.

The boys on their way to the top
Friday - Day 286 - a beautiful day today - a crisp sunny fall day.  Matthew had a basketball game after school so after that I convinced the family to go for hike up Blue Mountain - the fall colours still looked amazing and it was suppose to rain all weekend.  The Ready boys decided to join us.  So up Cascades Trail at the south end of Blue Mountain - me and 7 boys (5 kids and well Sean & Mike).  Of course like everything in a boys life it was a competition - which worked out great for me because the pace was fast up the hill - got a good cardio workout.  The downhill well that was a little muddy -which of course was very exciting to the boys - the muddier they got the more they liked it.  We ended the hike at the Village and wondered into Rusty's for some fun food and some fun drinks. What a great way to spend a Friday night. (I hope to get in a few more of these nights before the snow flies)
the reward for the hike - the view!

Days 280 to 282 - A Weekend to be Thankful

Thanksgiving weekend and it is all coming together - Tom the turkey is in the fridge, everyone knows what they are bringing and are working hard to make it local food and Kade and I are feeling better!  There are lots of things to be thankful for too - an amazing husband and best friend, great kids, fun friends and wonderful families. Also our health and this beautiful place that we live in!

Saturday - Day 280 - started the weekend at Active Life with many of my friends for a "push your pace" workout.  The rest of the day consisted of hockey and then cleaning my house :-)  oh and helping Matthew make his pumpkin pies - from scratch - roasted local pumpkins and got some eggs from a friend around the corner - they tasted amazing!

Sunday - Day 281 - The Big Dinner!!!   well today is the day for the big thanksgiving dinner.  Lots of prep work and organizing.  Managed to sneak out for a 5 k run just before some of the guest arrived.  Dinner was great and there was lots of laughs. The 100 mile theme worked out great and the food tasted amazing - thanks everyone for participating in my vision!

Thanksgiving dinner at the Rennies - special guests Sue & Lauri from Australia

Monday - Day 282 - The turkey comma - well it was a slow start at our house this morning - probably a combination of the turkey and the wine!  But it turned out to be a beautiful day - a bonus considering they were calling for rain all weekend.  So we took my visiting family to the Blue Mountain Village for a little tour around and then when everyone was on their way home Matthew, Kade and I went for a hike at Blue Mountain -wow the fall colours were fantastic - a great way to wrap up the weekend (and work off some of the food that we consumed)

At the top of Blue Mountain -what a view

Heading down on the gondola - well earned!

Days 275 to 279 - 100 Miles

Well Thanksgiving is next weekend and we, Sean & I, are hosting 20 people for dinner.  We have decided to make it a 100 mile dinner - so as much of the food that we have for dinner has to come from within 100 miles of where we live.  It is potluck so I was pleased that everyone was willing to entertain my idea - I will let you know how it goes.

Monday - Day 275 - a great way to start the week with a tough workout at Active Life - the 21 to 9 workout - which is my favourite.  You have 8 stations and you start with 21 reps then reduce by 3 reps until you get to 9 reps - and it is timed so it is a bit of a competition - which I also love!

Tuesday - Day 276- today is turkey day - I mean I ordered our turkey - we have named him TOM - his is local and is still hanging out in the farmers field - now that is fresh!  I discussed all of my Thanksgiving plans with Heather while we ran 6 km after the kids were in bed.

Wednesday - Day 277 - got up early again to run with speedy Gonzales (Sarah) - I had a fixed window of time since Sean had to be to work early so we had to run in the early morning darkness.  Felt good to go fast and to get it over with first thing :-)

Thursday - Day 278 - another morning at Active Life with the ladies - a medicine ball workout - wow core!

Friday - Day 279 -  Kade was home sick with flu today - so I was stuck here all day and to be honest I did not feel that great myself.  So once Sean got home Matthew and I went for a brisk walk to clear my head.  Hopefully I feel better tomorrow I have 20 people to feed this weekend!

Days 273 & 274 - more painting and hockey

So the weather is cooperating and I have had to take advantage of it to get the house painted - so I painted some more this weekend.  The good news - it looks great!!

Saturday - Day 273 - a busy day with painting and hockey.  Lorraine convinced me to go on a hike - which turned out to be more of a run - up the south end of Blue Mountain then across the top and back down again - the temperature was amazing for early October - t-shirt weather.  We almost made it with out getting wet - it decided to pour on us on the decent - made it a little slippery.  Was a great 45 minute workout though!

Sunday - Day 274 - another busy day that ended with a great 45 minute walk.
