So as we all head into the new year we are all faced with the concept of New Years resolutions. Oh I have made
them before only to fall short of my goal as life (family and work) take over my good intentions. So this year I decided to get my friend Angela involved in my New Year resolution so that I have to be accountable to someone other than myself. Oh, I guess this would be a good place to tell you what my New Years Resolutionis.........well the plan is to be
physically active for a minimum of 30 minutes for all 365 days of the year. That is right every single day of 2012. So now you might be asking why are you blogging about it? Well Angela and I were trying to figure out how to keep each other on track, she lives in London and I live in Collingwood. We tried google calendar but that was really frustrating and then Angela sent me an excel sheet that had dates on it and that is not that much fun. So when I was snowshoeing the other day I thought to myself maybe I should blog about our efforts - make us accountable not only to each other but anyone else who might be interested in what we are up to. So that is the beginning of this blog I hope you enjoy and I look forward to your comments.

Days 147 & 148 - The Weekend Again Yeah!

The weekend again - this weekend was Lobsterfest in Thornbury and the weather was amazing.

Saturday Day 147 - got out early for a run with Roxanne.  Lobsterfest starts early with a pre-party starting at 4:30 pm so I knew that I needed to get my workout in early - it was hot but we got a good 6.5 km run in before the festivities.  Oh there was also lots of dancing that night - I consider that a bonus :)

Sunday Day 148 - well today was a tough day - it was a long late night last night.  Also had lots to do around the house and we had to pick up our newest addition to the Rennie Clan!  Roxy Lobster Rennie - our new kitten - 5 weeks old - middle name is Lobster because my friend Melissa - who rescued the kittens convinced me that we should adopt her - while we were enjoying ourselves at Lobsterfest  - I also convinced Sean that night too - which was not as difficult as I would have thought!  So now we have a new addition to our family - she is pretty cute too!

Oh Matthew and I got in a 40 minute walk/run after dinner - Matthew has asked me to help him work on his longer distance running so we started tonight.  It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

Days 143 to 146

Well the long weekend was great and now back to reality - work, school and all the extracurricular activities we have mid week.

Tuesday Day 143 started out with a good fast 30 minute run - it had to be a fast one as I was not ready for back to school and I slept in.  I then went to an Active Life outdoor training session which was fun and very challenging.

Wednesday Day 144 - today was an early morning 45 minutes spin class at the YMCA and a 20 minute run on the treadmill.

Thursday Day 145 - the day got away from me today but I managed to get a 30 minute run in late in the day.  It was a great night for a run!

Friday Day 146 - early morning work out at Active Life Conditioning this morning - what a fun group of ladies.

May 24 Weekend

Well we made it!  The long weekend arrived and boy the weather was amazing.  What a great weekend filled with lots of fun activities.

Saturday Day 140 - ok today was a little crazy - trying to do all the chores around the house so we could play.  Also looking after my niece and her dog this weekend and Deffer decided to escape his house so when we went to get him he was nowhere to be found - so my planned mountain bike ride was delayed while we searched for Deffer - we did find him and by then it was late in the day and we had to prepare for the evening festivities.  Well didn't Deffer escape again from our house this time so once the party cleared out Sean and I went for a 40 minute walk for one more try to find the little guy!

Sunday Day 141 - the family started the day with an hour bike around town to try to find Deffer.  No luck but he was eventually found later in the day in Nottawa the next town over - he was definitely on the prowl last night!!!!  The day was so hot that we headed to the shale beach for the late afternoon and evening.  I got in a paddle in the kayak and the kids and Sean were on the water playing in the kayak and the paddle board - it was such a great time!  Oh I also worked really hard creating a garden in my back yard for about 4 hours - our back yard is like concrete - so it was a great workout and so was shovelling and moving the yard of triple mix!

Monday Day 142 - last day of the long weekend.  Started out with a mountain bike ride with the ladies.  So nice and dry on the trails - almost too dry!  Third ride out and I have not ridden the same route twice yet - you might think why care - well last year Sarah and I rode pretty much the same route each time we went mountain biking because we usually had time constraints and were too afraid to try something new in case we got lost!  So I am proud of us so far this season!!  We are learning lots of new routes!  So after our bike ride the dad's dropped off this kids and went for their bike rides and we took the kids hiking along the Bruce trail.  Again we live in a great place full of lots of great adventures!

Leading up to the Long Weekend Days 135-139

The May 24 long weekend - only 5 days away.  I really hope the weather is good - it is not typically - but we are not camping so it will probably not rain. Either way I am sure the family and I will find ways to actively enjoy our great area.  Here are the days leading up to the weekend.

Monday Day 135 - today was Monday again! Monday always seems to come so fast - today was an early morning workout at Active Life and a 40 minute run.

Tuesday Day 136 - a crazy day, as every Tuesday seems to be lately, did not get up early today so the day got away from me and I ended up doing a brisk 30 minute walk late in the evening.

Wednesday Day 137 - really tired today but managed to pull it together for a great 50 minute early morning run with Sarah - included some hills down by the harbour - a cold morning but really beautiful- we live in a great place :)

Thursday Day 138 - back to Active Life this morning for a good cardio/strength workout and then a nice walk with the boys in the evening.

Friday Day 139 - Today I got in my second mountain bike ride of the season - on Friday nights there is a group of people that go biking at 6:30pm then have a little tailgate party after - it was a great ride - I think we were an hour 20.  So fun to get out with a great group of people.

Looking forward to the weekend :)

Birthday Celebrations Day 132 to 134

This weekend was filled with Birthday celebrations - my aunt Karen celebrated her 6oth birthday, I attended a 40th birthday party and we had a little cake with my family for Matthew.  All of these celebrations made for a busy weekend.

Friday Day 132 - lot of stuff to get done today - work and packing for the weekend - the day started early with an active life workout - great way to get things started.

Saturday Day 133 - this was party day - a birthday party celebrating my Aunt Karen's 60th birthday.  The party was in Grand Bend and it was great to see my family all at the same time and location. Sean and I then headed out on the town - downtown London - to help celebrate my good friend Jen's 40th birthday - what a fun night of drinking and dancing!  I knew that the day was going to be completely jam packed with little time to do anything for myself - so I got up early -I hate doing that on a Saturday - to get in a run before the day began. Pushed myself to complete just under an hour (8km) run through the neighbourhood I grew up in.

Sunday Day 134 - well all the partying caught up with me today and the day was once again really busy including driving home!  So by the time we got home I convinced the family to come along on a walk with me - I pulled the its Mothers Day card!

I hope all the moms out there had a great active weekend :)

Monday thru Thursday Days 128 to 131

Wow this week has flown by.  But not to worry I have still managed to fit in my workouts this week.

Monday -  Day 128 started with the newest session of the Active Life Condition classes.  This morning included our testing - the testing that we will do again at the end of the session to see how we have improved.  I was mentally prepared for this today so it went well and I was glad to put it behind me and focus on the workout.  Great workout Laura thanks!

The kids then started their session at Active Life after school - the Youth Athletic Conditioning Program - the program is Inspired and aligned with Canada's Sport 4 life model with Long Term Athlete Development in mind, youth are taught proper movement patterns and challenged with coordination, movement, strength and cardiovascular tasks through games and fun exercises during each session.  It is held at Harbourview park and the kids love it - so I took the opportunity to go for a  30 minute run while they were in the program.

Tuesday - Day 129 - probably my busiest day yet this year - work, life, kids etc - so by 9ish at night my eyes were bulging out of my head from staring at the computer screen and my head was pounding from stressing about how I was going to get everything done on time for work that  I decided I should get my exercise in before it got too late!  I headed out for a brisk walk around the neighbourhood.  It was such a nice night that I immediately started feeling better and ended up fitting in 45 minutes!

Wednesday - Day 130 - managed to get a 45 minute spin class in and a 30 minute run - felt good today!  Kids had their Active Life program again tonight - they had so much fun!

Thursday - Day 131 - well today is again a busy day with the entire family all over the map this evening.  So I had to get up extra early today to be back home from working out by 6:45am so Sean could leave to go on a field trip with his class.  So to make it easy I headed to the Y to run on the treadmill - did get a 50 minute interval run in.

Days 125-127 A Long Weekend

Well Friday has arrived - which is really the start of the weekend - well at least we have the weekend to look forward to - right!!!!

Friday Day 125 - started early with a 30 minute spin class at the Y - why have a 30 minute spin class is beyond me - it takes me 30 minutes to warm up but I am trying to do a variety of cardio through out the week and spin is different then running - so it is a good workout to start and it gets me warmed up for the run on the treadmill after!!  I managed 30 minutes today - so a total of 60 minutes - which is really what my goal is now on days that I can fit it in :)

Saturday Day 126 - did not get  up as early today - a little tired from staying up late waiting for Matthew and 2 of his friends to fall asleep - Matthew had a sleep over!  I did try out a new class at Active Life this morning - Push Your Pace/Metcon training - this was a completely different workout for me - felt like a guy workout - it included climbing ropes, throwing sand bags, push ups with our feet on the wall and lots of fast running.  It was hard but fun!  I then got out on my mountain bike for the first time this season.  A good little tour in 3 stages with Sarah - she got a new bike so we needed to break it in.  The weather has been so different this season that Sarah and I realized that we are 5 weeks earlier this year getting out on the trails then last year - and the conditions are like early summer!  Crazy considering that people, including my husband, have been mountain biking for weeks already?!?!?!  Felt good on the trails and I can't wait to get out there with the kids.

Sunday Day 127 - Sunday is fun day!  I love Sundays - slow starts, tea on the front porch, not checking my email and just hanging out with the family.  Today we started out the day with a hike/bike at 3 stages.  Well Sean and Kade went mountain biking and Matthew and I went hiking - Matthew can't ride his bike with the cast - although he really wanted to :)   It took Matthew and I just over an hour to work our way through some awesome trails that to be honest I have never hiked only biked - it is amazing how different they look when you walk them.  It was a beautiful day and Kade and Sean had a great ride too.

Kade

check out the trillium behind us!

I then got in a great 12 km run (just over an hour) with Heather - I so did not want to go for a run this afternoon but once we got started it was not so bad - the sun was out and the trails - which I am still discovering - are great in Collingwood.  We did an entire loop around Collingwood and only ran along a road for a very short part!  I now need to stretch!

Days 121 to 124

Another week is here - this exercise thing is getting to be "just part of  my day" instead of  "I should workout today!!".  I wish the weather would hurry up and get nice and of course warmer.  I like to do stuff outside but I hate to be cold.  Don't get me wrong I like winter but that is different then it being cold in April and May.  Winter cold is fresh and we dress appropriately to enjoy it.  This spring/I am not sure if winter is still here weather sucks.  It is freezing cold first thing in the morning and then 20 in the afternoon and the freezing again once the sun goes down!!  I have not figured out how to dress appropriately yet - I am always over dressed or under dressed!  It also does not help that the wind is always coming off Georgian Bay either. Despite my weather issues I have still managed to get in my exercise the past 4 days.

Monday Day 121 started at Active Life with my ladies conditioning class - it was a leg workout and it was hard. I then snuck out to the Y at lunch and got in a 30 minute run on the treadmill.  The weekend that just pasted was full of food and drink so I need a  little extra cardio to start the week off.

Tuesday Day 122 - well this was Matthew Birthday so I had to sneak out really early this morning to get in some exercise because I wanted to be back before he woke up to wish him a happy birthday and to make him pancakes for breakfast.  So I managed to get in a 50 minute run on the treadmill - again the weather played a part on my indoor workout!  This evening was also my Urge night - so I also walked to Karen's house to help work off the cheesecake Matthew ordered for his birthday dessert that I helped him eat.  Just a quick note I cannot believe I have an 11 year old - boy time flies and I am really looking forward to mountain biking with him this summer and trying out our new kayak and paddle board on Georgian Bay (when it warms up :))

Wednesday Day 123 - Sarah is back from her holidays - in warm sunny Cuba - and she wanted to run early - outside - this morning.  I was trying to figure out a way to get out of it but it is always a good run with Sarah - at least she does make me work harder then I would make myself work!  Well it was so cold this morning that I needed mitts and a hat - again is it not May now Mother Nature!  It was a tough run for both of us - a struggle to warm up and a struggle to keep going but we did manage to get in 8 km or so for 50 minutes.  Not my best or favourite run but boy did I feel great for the rest of the day - Thanks Sarah!

Thursday Day 124 - again I am having issues with the weather this week.  My plan today was to take it easy and get in brisk 30 minute walk this evening.  Well I started down the street and was greeted by a huge lightening bolt that exploded in the sky right in front of me followed very closely by a loud bang of thunder!  Needless to say a walk outside, even though the temperature was so much more pleasant, was not going to happen.  So I headed over to the Y to walk on the treadmill and I managed to catch the latest Big Bang Theory - so not all was lost and I did get in my physical activity for the day!

Hope the weather will cooperate for the weekend!
